No two jurisdictions have identical laws regarding the care, planting, or removal of public and private trees. Some cities have virtually no restrictions on tree removals while others require permits for all but the smallest trees. Some species are protected in some areas, but not in others. Care of street trees may be the responsibility of the local public works department; other times it may be the domain of parks and recreation, or the property owner themselves.
