Plant Health Care

At the Professional Tree Care Company, we believe in a holistic approach to plant health care. In an effort to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers, we are launching a new compost tea application service.

Learn About Compost Tea

Compost tea is created from soaking compost in water. This creates a food source for microorganisms and adds air to the solution, giving microbes the conditions they need to reproduce. Once the mix is done brewing, you have a nutritionally rich, liquid soil supplement that encourages healthy plant growth.

Benefits of Compost Tea

  • Improved Soil Structure

    • A group of diverse microbes break down organic matter, improving the soil structure.

  • Increased Nutrient Availability

    • The microbes in compost tea make nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium more accessible to plants.

  • Better Water Retention

    • When soil is healthy, it can hold more water. This may also reduce how often you need to water your yard.

  • Stimulated Root Growth

    • Microbes encourage plant roots to grow deeper and expand.

  • Potential Disease Suppression

    • Some studies suggest that compost tea can help suppress plant pathogens by introducing beneficial microbes that compete with disease-causing organisms.

  • Reduced Reliance on Chemical Fertilizers

    • Plantes relay nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, but they need help breaking them down. Microbes help break down these nutrients. Chemical fertilizers also help make these nutrients accessible, but there are far more drawbacks that can harm humans, pets, and the environment.

Why Use Compost Tea

Compost Tea offers a natural alternative to plant fertilizer that may contain toxins. This offers a clean alternative for those who simply don't like to use chemicals around their family, children, pets, or home.

The overuse of chemical fertilizers reduces soil porosity, water holding for the plants, soil fertility, killing soil-friendly microorganisms, disturbing soil pH.

Unlike chemical fertilizers, compost tea helps improve soil health by introducing beneficial microbes, which can lead to better nutrient uptake for your plants, increased water retention, enhanced root growth, and overall plant vitality.  Once your soil is nutrient-rich, the need for fertilizer is minimized. Healthy plants are better able to resist pests and diseases.
